Key factors for an improved performance of tools, machine elements and numerous others technical parts are the properties of their surfaces. Today, the contribution of coatings of all kinds, to a superficial properties enhancement, effectively and at relatively low cost, is of crucial importance.
Aiming to create an international forum, concerning coatings applications in the field of production technique, embracing the state of the art and the future trends in coatings research and development, THE Coatings Conference was established. This Conference organized in one and a half year periods in Greece and in Germany alternately, was initiated in 1998 during the CIRP conference in Athens, by three academic Institutions:

  • the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Engineering (ΕΕΔΜ), Aristoteles University of Thessaloniki (Prof. K.-D. Bouzakis)
  • the Institute for Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW),University of Hannover (Prof. H.-K. Toenshoff),
  • and the Laboratory for Manufacturing Technology (LFT), University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Prof. M. Geiger),

After having held successive conferences in Thessaloniki (1999), Hanover (2001), Thessaloniki (2002) and Erlangen (2004), the 5th THE Coatings onference is organized again on October 5-7, 2005 in Kallithea of Chalkidiki in Greece.
It is a great pleasure for ΕΕΔΜ, with the support of the Hellenic EUREKA office, to organize the 5th THE Coatings Conference. In ΕΕΔΜ, research activities results, elaborated in various scientific Institutions, Companies and in ΕΕΔΜ will be presented.
The EUREKA brokerage event, organized at the end of this Conference aims to stimulate collaborations between Research Institutions and Industry towards the creation of projects in the frame of the EUREKA Initiative, for the development of innovative products and services.
I wish to all participants a pleasant stay in Kallithea of Chalkidiki.
